Oktober 1920 er\u00f6ffnet, als Juan Jos\u00e9 Vel\u00e1zquez-Gaztelu B\u00fcrgermeister der Stadt war. Kardinal Enrique Almaraz aus Sevilla leitete die Zeremonie und begleitete die Stadtkommission nach Madrid, um bei einer vom Entwicklungsministerium ausgerichteten Zeremonie eine Auszeichnung f\u00fcr die Arbeit zu erhalten. Vor dem Bau der Eisenbr\u00fccke gab es viele Projekte, die versuchten, den Fluss Guadalete zu \u00fcberqueren. Fr\u00fchere Br\u00fccken waren aus Holz und fielen den vielen \u00dcberschwemmungen zum Opfer; der Beschluss bestand darin, den Fluss mit Lastk\u00e4hnen zu \u00fcberqueren.
